Pondicherry also referred as Puducherry is the capital city of one of the most beautiful Union Territory of India called Puducherry. It comes under the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It marks its territory under the coastal regions of the state with the land area of 293 km sq and elevation of 3m. above sea level. Since, the UT was under the colonization of France for a very long time, so its culture has somewhat French effect. How to reach?
By Road:
Distance between the capital city of Tamil Nadu – Chennai and Pondicherry is 150kms & is well accessible from Chennai via Mahabalipuram. The Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) runs intercity buses & luxury buses to Chennai on hourly basis. From the bus stand, you can either take a local taxi or cab very easily.
By Railways:
Pondicherry railway station is the main serving rail-head situated at less than 4kms from the main city area. The station serves Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Kanyakumari, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Visakhapatnam and Mangalore. The intra – state luxurious train ride will costs about Rs. 745 per head.
By Airways:
Currently, there are only 2 direct flights from Bangalore & Hyderabad to Pondicherry. The best way to reach Pondicherry is by taking a flight to Chennai and from there you can either take a city bus or Volvo bus to the destination. The cheapest flight to Pondicherry will cost you around Rs. 2874 per head.
