Pulicat also known as by its historic name Pazhaverkadu is a seashore town located in Thiruvallur district of the India state Tamil Nadu. Here the official language is Tamil & for localities, the major source of economy is fishing, and tourism hospitality.
When to visit?
The ideal time to visit this small town is in winters, because in winters the town attracts a lot of migratory birds coming from in and out of India. The prime attraction here is the greater flamingos which attract a whole lot of visitors per year and it winters and generally in winters, the temperature remains comfortable for walking and sightseeing.

Pulicat Lake/ Pulicat Lagoon:
It is the 2nd largest brackish water lagoon in the country measuring 759 square kilometers or 293 square miles and the chief part of the lagoon comes under Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh feed by the Arani River & the Kalangi River. The prime occupation around lagoon periphery is fishing and it has rich diversity in marine species including Mullets, Jellyfish, Milk Fish, Prawns, Sea turtles, greater flamingos, Catfish and more, and the lagoon area in Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh gives livelihood to two-third of fishermen. Salt production from the lagoon is also a part of the town’s economy. Apart from the fauna it has great variety of flora also including Cyanophyceae, Chlorophycea, Rhodophyceae, Prosopis juliflora ad more.
Pulicat Bird Sanctuary:
The Pulicat Lagoon enclose Pulicat Bird Sanctuary and sanctuary’s international name is Pulicat Lake Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is most renowned for greater flamingos seen. It also attracts migratory birds from in & out of the country, and also forms base for feeding and nesting for aquatic and terrestrial birds such as pelicans, storks and more.

By Road:
The Flamingo Town lay very close to the capital city- Chennai and the other Elavur which is around 60kms & less that 4kms respectively. So, the easiest route to go Pulicat is from Chennai by state government buses boarding from Periyamet bus stop.
By Railways:
The closest railway station is the Chennai railway station and we all know the heart of Tamil Nadu have availability of regular trains from Bangalore, New Delhi, and Mumbai, Hyderabad and more. From railway station you can either choose local taxi, auto or pre-booked cab services to your destination.
By Airways:
The nearest aerodrome is the Chennai international airport located around 90kms away. This airport as great accessibility from almost in and out of India like Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle East and more.
