How to reach

The nearest airport near Tawang is in Tezpur, Assam. It takes 10 to 12 hours to reach Tawang by road.

The nearest railway station is again at Tezpur which is approximately 314km from Tawang and takes almost the same by road. This railway line is connected to the majority of the cities in India.

Besides this, the road towards Tawang is another level of experience. The Himalayan range makes the view breathtaking, especially in the winter season. Bus service is also available on the roads towards Tawang in major cities nearby.

Best season

The best season to visit Tawang is from March to October. The summer season and the pre-monsoon is the best time for the travelers to explore the town at it’s best. Snowfall in Tawang starts from November and lasts until May. In the winter season, the roads are sometimes blocked due to snow so it’s better to contact any local guide before traveling in winter.

Attraction and Tourist spots in Tawang

There are a lot of places in Tawang to visit. Tawang monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world is located in Tawang. It is located at an elevation of about 10,000 feet on the top of a mountain. Besides that, the architecture, the history, and unique and primitive sculptures hold a lot of prestige in that place.

Another great place is the giant Buddha statue. This 180 feet magnificent Buddha statue is located in Dhamma hill and is a wonderful site to visit.

Gorichen peak for hiking, Sela pass, Nuranang waterfalls, Madhuri lake, and Jaswant Garh are the astonishing places for local sightseeing in Tawang.

For shoppers, the Tibetan settlement market is a very good place to explore the culture and shop as well. Beautiful Handicrafts and delicacies of Arunachal Pradesh are present in that place.

An inner line permit is necessary to enter the state of the northeast which is easily available online at around INR 100-400.
