Tirunelveli is an ancient city and is believed to be an ancient settlement of human existence. Tirunelveli also known as Tinnevelly, is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The city is the administrative headquarters of the Tirunelveli district, lies on west bank of Thamirabarani River and its twin city Palayamkottai lies on its east bank. The city is located on NH 44 that means 150kms from Madurai and 91kms from Kanyakumari. NH 138 connects Palayamkottai with Tuticorin Port and Tirunelveli is also connected by major state and national highways to Kollam, Tiruchendur, Rajapalayam, Sankarankovil, Ambasamudram, Nazareth and more.
