How To Reach
Elephant falls is just about 13km from Shillong and takes hardly 30 minutes.
To reach Shillong, the nearest airport from the city is Umroi airport near Barapani which is just 25kms away from Shillong. You can also land at Guwahati airport which is about 125kms away from the city and hire a private car or a taxi to reach Shillong.
The nearest railway station from Shillong is at Guwahati Railway Station. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Shillong from there.
Besides that bus services are also available from Guwahati and other cities of the northeast via Guwahati.
Best Season To Visit
July to September is the favorable time to visit the place as due to the rainy season the falls would have a lot of water.
About The Place
There are three waterfalls in total. The first one is very broad and visible throughout the year. Throughout the dense trees, this waterfall adds much charm to the beauty of the place.
The second waterfall is very thin and is almost negligible in winters due to the decreasing water levels. The third one is the most visible waterfall is the tallest with clear water flowing like a sheet of milk on the dark rocks in the background. This is a nice place for photoshoots and nature photography.
Outside the elephant falls, there are crafts shops and a local shop that sells street foods.”Jhalmuri” is the best among all the street foods of the place.
