Courtallam – Spa of South India

 

Courtallam also pronounced as Kuttraalam, situated in the Western Ghats of Tenkasi District of the Indian State Tamil Nadu with the elevation of 520 ft. This place is known for its amazing variety of waterfalls and Lord Shiva has blessed this place for never ending agriculture production and is one of the places where he performed his Cosmic Dance. There in total 9 waterfalls in which Courtallam Falls on Chittar River is the prime attraction among the visitors.

When to go?


Since the town Courtallam is very well known for waterfalls. Eventually, during monsoons i.e. between Junes to September you can see the water-level at its highest peak. But travelling during monsoons is quite tricky, so, the majority of the tourists prefers going in the winter season as winters there are not very extreme. But if you really want to explore the beauty of the town then you should plan a trip in the months of July, September, October, November, January, February and March.

How to go?


By Road


The most convenient way to reach Courtallam is by Tenkasi district which is distanced at around 5kms from the town. During the season, there are regular buses that operate from Tenkasi to Courtallam. Tenkasi is easily accessible from Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kollam, and Kanyakumari by Tamil Nadu State Bus Transport Corporation (TNSBTC).


By Railways


The nearest railway station is Tenkasi situated at the distance of 5kms from the main city area. There are regular trains that connect Chennai, Madurai, Pondicherry and Tirunelveli connecting majority of the Tamil Nadu.
Another in service railhead is Sengottai Railway Station located at approx 10kms from the spa town. This railhead connects the other part of the town like Manamadurai, Sivakasi, Rajapalayam and more. The average value of ticket price is Rs 200 per head. The local transport like bus, pre-booked cans are always available from the station to your desired destination.

By Air


There are two domestic airports that serves Tenkasi district. First one is Tuticorin airport that is roughly 95kms from the main city area. There are only very few flights from there. The other one is Madurai airport and is very much accessible from any part of the state and the country like Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Bangalore and more. The airport is distanced about 195kms from the district. After getting off the flight, you can hire a taxi or even take bus to your destination.
