Coonoor is a small town located in the Nilgiris district of the Indian State Tamil Nadu. The town has an elevation of 6070 ft and is the 2nd highest peak in the region after Ooty. The town of Coonoor is one of three misty Nilgiri hill stations including Ooty and Kotagiri and is well known amongst visitors for lush green landscape and scenic views. Apart from the nature, this small town is also famous for its tea. Numerous high-quality varieties of teas are grown here and is also home to many big tea factories and estates.

When to go

Coonoor has a sub-tropical highland climate due to high altitude. Since, Coonoor is hill station, so can be visited throughout the year. But still, winters are considered as the best time to plan a trip. The months of/ between Octobers to March when the mean temperature doesn’t exceed from 20°C and comfortable enough to walk around and explore the town.

How to go?

By Road

Coonoor is situated close to Coimbatore & Bangalore, so it is pretty easy to access the town by road or rail. There are plenty of state and private overnight buses available from Mettupalyam Coimbatore, Mysore, Salem, Kodaikanal, Dindigul Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Bangalore, Thanjavur, Trivandrum and Chennai to Coonoor.

By Railways

The Coonoor railway station is an important rail hub for trains passing to Ooty (Ooty Toy Train). One of the most popular railheads to reach the town is Mettupalyam station distanced at about 34kms from the main town area. There are plenty of trains available to Mettupalyam from every possible part of the state Tamil Nadu and the country like Indore, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Patna, Agra, Lucknow, Jaipur, and more. From the station you can get local taxior cab very easily to the destination. The mean train ticket price to Coonoor is about Rs. 467 per head.

By Airways

There are 2 in-service closest airports to Coonoor. First is Bangalore International Airport distanced at about 300kms and the second one is Chennai International Airport located at approx 490kms from the city. Both of the aerodromes have good connectivity of the flights from every major city of India. The average flight charge is Rs. 5k per head approximately.
