Gulmarg

Gulmarg is a popular tourist attraction and a popular town in the Baramula district of Jammu & Kashmir and is well near the line of control between India and Pakistan. Gulmarg which was

originally known as Gaurimarg which means ‘the fair one’. It was named by the shepherds in debt to the Hindu goddess Parvati. In the 16th century one member of Chak Dynasty, Sultan Yusuf Shah who often visited the place named it Gulmarg which means meadow of flowers. Gulmarg is a natural treat for every visitor. It has green and lush valleys which make Gulmarg a dream for tourists. Gulmarg is not a mere mountain with astonishing beauty, it also provides a lot of activities to be done. Gulmarg, in India has the worlds highest green Golf Course at an altitude of approx. 2,650 meters. Gulmarg is also India’s prestigious ski resort at winters. 01. Gulmarg Gondola: It was in the year 1988 the government of Jammu & Kashmir planned to build a cable cart at Gulmarg to promote tourism and business. This is where majority of tourists enjoy their time in Gulmarg. It is the Asia’s Highest as well as the Longest cable car project. It is a rope-way with two stages and it has an astonishing capability of carrying 600 people an hour. The first stage starts from the Gulmarg resort at 2,600 meters and ends at Kongdoori Station in the Kongdori valley, while the second stage of the ropeway, takes people to a height of 3,747 meters on Kongdoori Mountain, which is a shoulder of nearby Afarwat Peak. The first stage of the rope-way
was completed in the year 1998 and the second stage in the year 2005.

02. Khilanmarg: It is an astonishing valley which is at a distance of 6 km by walk from Gulmarg bus

stop. It is most rewarding site for travellers. In spring time it will be carpeted with beautiful flowers. It also offers a clear and sweeping view of the great Himalayas.

04. Alpather Lake: If you’re visiting Gulmarg you cannot leave without visiting Alpather lake, which is 13 kms from Gulmarg. It is a favourite picnic spot for travelers.

Gulmarg is an all year destination which makes tourists come here all around the year. travelers can choose the time according to climatic conditions. During the winter although it is a high altitude destination people visit here for adventure sports like skiing. The summer season turns Gulmarg into another place, with the coming of  spring flowers start to bloom which finally turns into a meadow of flowers or a valley of flowers.
