The floodplain at North-East India around Bhutan which is locally called Dooars is starting from the Teesta river from the east and going along to Sankoshi river in the west. Dooars consist of many cities and districts which also include Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Siliguri etc and is bounded by the natural beauty of Eastern Himalaya mountain range, thick forest continued with tea gardens and with the richness of flora and fauna. The name came from the word doors as it is a gateway to Bhutan.

By flight: Bagdogra which is the nearest airport is well connected to major cities of the country. Taxis and buses are available for reaching Dooars. 

By train: The nearest station is the New Jalpaiguri station and is also one of the biggest stations. It is well connected to various cities of the country. 

By road: The most convenient and wonderful way to reach Dooars. Dooars is well connected with good quality roads and the visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery outside. Cabs and taxis from Darjeeling and Siliguri are also available for use. Some state-run buses are also helpful to reach Dooars.

When can you expect to visit in Dooars?

People enjoy the season which they like. Dooars also is known for having pleasant weather the whole year. So people are around this place like a whole year, but what season you prefer is up to you. 

If you are a summer person, you might want to visit here from March to June.

If you are a monsoon or rainy person, you can plan to visit between July to September. The rain and lush greenery also excite some nature lovers and adventurers. This is an offseason so discounts in hotels are easily available. 

If you love the cool and dry winds of winter, you should look for the months October to February. After the monsoon, the temperatures range from 10 to 23°. Sometimes the lowest can be 0° too. 

Food to taste in Dooars

In general, both North Indian, as well as South Indian foods, are available in Dooars. The local dishes like momos, dry fish pickle and bamboo shots are considered to be the best. Also the local roadside stalls with puri bhaji, fish pakora are a must to try.
