All About Siju Caves

Siju caves are one of the attractive tourist places in Meghalaya. It is a limestone cave with bats inside it famous for its stalagmites and stalactites. This is the third-longest cave on the Indian subcontinent covering a distance of about 4km but most of the cave is filled with water and 1/4th of the cave only receives sunlight.

How to reach Siju caves

Siju caves are connected to all major roads via Tura district at a distance of just 110km.

Therefore the nearest airport from Tura is in Guwahati which is about 200kms away.

You can hire a cab or a taxi after you reach Guwahati airport to reach Tura. You can also take bus services from Guwahati and the police Bazar of Shillong.

The nearest railway station is also at Guwahati which is connected to major cities of India and is about 225kms from Tura and takes almost 3 hours to reach by road. Private Cars, taxis, and local transport are easily available from the station.

Besides that Tura is well connected to major cities of the northeast such as Itanagar, Shillong, Agartala, Kohima, Silchar, and Guwahati. The roads are smooth and the views are breathtaking for a road trip.

Best time to visit Siju caves

This place can be visited throughout the year but since only one-fourth of the cave receives light, therefore, the summer season that is from May to July can be considered as the most favorable time to visit the place.

About the place

Siju caves attracts a lot of tourists throughout the year. It is famous for its flying fox or the bat residing inside the cave. Rare species of bat are also found inside the caves. These caves are the best place for adventure and exploring new things. The temperature is very cool inside the cave and filled with water.

Outside the cave, there is a dense forest. There are certain places to camp and trek nearby the cave. At night the place is very calm and silent.

The skies are clear and the moonlight guides the travelers to their places. Most of the time there is no electricity after 7 pm. The local tribes of the area are very friendly and help a lot.

Siju caves is a must-visit place once you visit Tura in Meghalaya. Without Siju caves your whole Meghalaya tour will be incomplete. Once you reach this place you will appreciate the environment and the Atmosphere and take all the memories to your deathbed.
