How to reach
Don Bosco Museum is just at a distance of 10minutes from Shillong. Therefore you have to reach Shillong to go there as it falls on the way from Guwahati to Shillong.
The nearest airport from Shillong is Umroi airport at a distance of 35 km but it is still not connected to the major cities of Meghalaya. Guwahati international airport is located at a distance of 130km and takes almost 3hours to reach by road.
The nearest railway station is also at Guwahati. Cabs, taxis and local transports are easily available from the airport as well as the station. Besides that Assam State transport corporation and Meghalaya transport corporation provides bus services from Guwahati and major cities of the northeast.
Best season to visit
The best season to visit this place is in the autumn and spring season that is from October to March excluding December and January as the winters are too chilly for the tourists of Meghalaya.
About the place
This museum has 7 floors holding 17 galleries showing artifacts of all tribes belonging to northeast India.
There are certain statues and portraits of the tribes of the northeast, their facial structure, and their family tree. Apart from this, the museum also has a wide range of artworks, handicrafts, costumes, and weapons used by the early men during the prehistoric ages.
On the seventh floor, there is a stairway to the top of the museum from which the entire city of Shillong can be seen with floating clouds. There is also a canteen for the visitors providing snacks and beverages. The museum is open from morning 9:30 to 4:30 in the evening.
