Neermahal

Neermahal is a royal palace located in the middle of a lake called Rudrasagar in Melaghar, approximately 53kms from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The palace was built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarma belonging to the Manikya dynasty of Tripura. The elegant architecture of the palace is basically to provide cool temperatures during the summer season.

Best place to visit

This place can be visited anytime but the best time to visit is during the spring-summer season that is from February to June.


How to reach

Neermahal is around 53kms from Agartala. One can book private vehicles or can travel by local transport. The local transport costs only 30-50 rupees from Battala area of the city.

About the place

After reaching Neermahal, one has to book tickets for the boat journey available at INR 40 in a group which will go towards the palace situated in the middle of the lake. Some boats can be booked privately too which will cost INR 450. Then they will charge a minimum fare of 20 rupees for entering the palace. The palace is entirely built of marble and sandstone. There are a total of 24rooms and 2 stairways. The elegant architecture of the palace is a reasonable province for the photographers. In the evening, the sunset adds grace to the lake and the palace making it look like an engaging part of the alluring view of the place. There is also a light and sound show for the tourists. During the winters the glimpses of migratory birds add charm to the view.


Visiting Neermahal is a must thing to do if you are traveling to Tripura. It’s a gem in the entire Northeast!
