The city is known as the Gateway to North East India and is located in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri districts of India is none other than Siliguri. It is the third-largest city of West Bengal and also known as the twin city of Jalpaiguri. Famous for being the commercial and industrial hub of tea and timber. 

How to reach Siliguri?

By flight: Siliguri has its own airport namely Bagdogra airport and is nearly 15 mins in a cab. The airport is connected to cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. 

By road: Buses and cabs are common in Siliguri. State-owned buses and private buses run regularly. Darjeeling is nearly 67 km away from Siliguri and can be reached by taxis too. The bus stand in Siliguri is named as Tenzing Norgay bus terminus and is situated at the Hill cart road. 

By rail: There are mainly two rail paths connecting Siliguri, one being the Siliguri Junction and other being the New Jalpaiguri junction. The latter is well connected to major cities of the country.

Best Season to Visit

Summer: During April to June, Siliguri experiences temperatures from 35°C to 37°C. Early morning and late nights are the best timing to roam in hot and humid cities. Some even look forward to hill stations to escape the heat being nearly one hour drive away. 

Monsoon: August to September are the months of monsoon where the city receives heavy rainfall in June lasting to September. Although this rain gives relief from the heat, still there is very low to no visibility making it difficult in sightseeing. This monsoon can still be enjoyed indoors with Bengali tea or Bengali cuisine. 

Winter: The best time and season advisable to visit Siliguri. Visitors wait for this time to visit as the city has a perfect climate and is not too cold. With a temperature range of 8 to 25°C, the nearby hill stations are filled with snow. The view of those hill stations along with snow-capped Kanchenjunga mountain range is one of the sights not affordable to miss.

There are many activities like trekking, boating, hiking and many more to do in Siliguri during winters and that is one of the reasons why they have a hike in visitors during winter.

Approx one whole day is enough to cherish the beauty of Siliguri if you have the energy to wander and explore the city. But still, people prefer to take it slowly and end up nearly 2 to 3 days.
