Bhoramdeo Temple Guide

Bhoramdeo Temple is situated at Chaura village in Kabirdham district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Bhoramdeo temple is a Hindu complex, where 3 temples are built and are dedicated to Lord Shiva and the main temple is built out of bricks and these are dated back to 11th century. The temples have outstanding architecture and are blend of Konark Sun Temple and Khajuraho Temple and this complex is known by the name of “Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh”. The structural uniqueness is justifies with carved images on the exterior walls and receding tiers placed sequentially upwards in the top part of the temple tower. 

When To Visit

Every other place in Chhattisgarh, the climate is humid subtropical, so here that means summers are extremely harsh and unbearable and monsoons are heavy. So, the only perfect time left to visit a plan is in winter season between Novembers to March. The weather there is cold, pleasant and little bit dry. A large number of tourists/devotees can be seen during Maha Shivratri that has came to seek the blessings and to enjoy the festive time.

Tourist Attractions

Istaliq Temple: this is the main temple built in 2nd-3rd century built out of clay bricks. A Shiva Linga is consecrated for worshippers. 

Open-air Museum: located within the premises of Bhoramdeo complex, it has many archeological antiquaries and the main attraction is Sati Pillars and Kal Bhairav sculptures.  

Madwa Mahal: this is distanced at 1km and is a marriage hall where Prince Ramachnandra Dev got married to Princess Ambika Devi in 1349. This building has epic strcture and architecture of all and this place is considered as one of the auspicious places to get married in Chhattisgarh. The exterior walls have erotic 54 sexual postures practiced and glorified by Nagawanshi Kings. 

Cherki Mahal: this is the last building in the comples, this also has Shiva Linga but non-carved and the temple of the roof has lotus decoration carved by hands. 

How To Reach

By Road

The Bhoramdeo Temple is in Kawardha which is well connected to Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg through Chhattisgarh State Road Transportation and Corporation. Plenty of private overnight buses are available from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh also. The bus ticket fare is decided by state government and is usually not fixed. 

By Railways

The nearest station is Raipur railway station, located at the distance of 120kms. Raipur Railway Station is well connected to Ranchi, Jabalpur, Indore, Bilaspur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ajmer and more. After getting off the train, you can take any public transportation to your destination. 

By Airways

The nearest airport is Mana Airport or Raipur Airport distanced at approx 130kms from Kawardha. From airport, you can board on city bus, private taxi or shared cab to Bhoramdeo Temple.
