Meerut Tourism

Meerut was founded by Mauryan emperor Ashoka and later British regime built a massive Cantonment here. In ancient times, this place is known as “home of Ravan’s wife”; Mandodari”. The city falls under Delhi National Capital Region and is second biggest city in Delhi NCR. The city is one of the largest producers of sports goods and musical instruments hence known by the name of “Sports City of India” and the place is famous for a traditional sweet Gazak. Meerut was the first city to see the fire of Indian Rebellion Movement in 1857. The ideal time to explore and sight-seeing is between October and February. 

Tourist Attractions

Gandhi Park

The place is located at Cantonment area of Meerut and locally known as ‘Company Garden’. The park is known for its Botanical Garden and also rare species of flora and fauna. Children Park for playing and mini rides and musical fountain.

St. John’s Church

This church was built by British Regime and is oldest church in North India. The area around church is filled with lush green trees. 

Augharnath Mandir

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is known for their sacrifice during Indian Independence war and hence known as ‘Kali Paltan Mandir’ because during British rule, Indian army was known as ‘Kali Paltan’.

Basilica of Our Lady of Graces

This church is dedicated to Virgin Mary and is known as “churches among the churches”. The dome shaped church has beautiful interiors and the statue is made up of shinning white marbles and walls are made up of colored marbles and semi-precious stone. 

How To Reach

By Road

Meerut city is very close to Delhi, if you are planning to go Meerut from anywhere Delhi such Haridwar, Dehradun, Lucknow, Faridabad and Noida, then you can easily board on any private bus but other than that, road network from other part of India is not very accessible. 

By Rail

The city has 2 railway stations: Meeurt Junction and Meerut Cantt. Many trains move to and fro from Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Jhansi, Ahmedabad and Kota to Meerut. The two railway network system connects the district with major part of India. 

By Air

The nearest serving airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at the distance of approx 90kms. From airport you can book a cab or auto or board on bus to reach Meerut.
