Sarnath is a small village located at a distance of approx 10kms from Varanasi on the confluence of rivers Ganga and Varuna. This small village is very sacred place for Buddhist and Jains. It is believed that Gautam Buddha gave his 1st Sermon here after he attended enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.
Sarnath is the birth place of 11th Tirthankara Shri Shreyansanath Bhagwan; it is the place where 4 out of 5 Kalyanak of Shri Shreyansanath Bhagwan took place. As the town is full of temples, ample of walking is required to explore the place. So the ideal time is between December to March, when the weather is cold and comfortable.

Road
Sarnath is only 10kms away from Varanasi. Many state-owned buses move to and fro from Delhi, Meerut, Jhansi and Raipur to Varanasi. Then from Varanasi, you can hire an auto or cab to reach Sarnath.
Railway
Sarnath has a busy railway station and is connected to major cities of the India. Bu it is seen that, there are not many trains to halt at Sarnath station. So, the best way to take trains is from Varanasi Junction.
Airways
The town doesn’t own its airport. The nearest airport is Varanasi airport at a distance of 25kms away. The Varanasi airport is well connected to cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore and Chennai etc. From the airport there is facility of bus, auto and cab to reach Sarnath.
