Dongagarh Guide

Dongagarh is a little town in Rajnandgaon district in the Chhattisgarh state of India. The name Dongagarh is divided into 2 words; ‘Dongarh’ means mountains and ‘garh’ means fort. The town has total land area of 17 sq km and this little town is known for its religious synchronization. Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains contribute a chief part in the town’s population. The Dongagarh is famous for its historical grounds. 

Best Time To Visit

There are many seasons you can plan a trip here. You can come here during Chaitra Navratris and will see a large number of tourists in Bambleshwari Temple. If you came here around Vasak or Wesak, the town will be packed with a lot of Buddha devotees. If you want to explore the historical and architectural site, then winters i.e. between Novembers to March is the ideal time to go there. 

Tourist Attractions

Maa Bambleshwari Temple

The temple is famous worldwide for its miracles. The Temple is located on the peak of 1600m and there are in total 1000 steps to reach there and the ropeways are also available. There is a small temple on the ground level distanced around 0.5kms from the main temple known as Choti Bambleshwari Temple. There is a tradition of lighting Jyoti Kalash in Hindu festival Navaratris. 

Pragyagiri

Pragyagiri Mountain Dongargarh

This is a small village situated at less than 1kms from Dongagarh. The place is dedicated to Buddha and first International Buddhist Conference held here on 6th February 1992. The Buddha statute is situated on the hilltop of 300metres and there are 225 steps that lead you to the mountain. 

Chandragiri

This small hill is dedicated to Jain Tirthankar Chandraprabhu ji upon blessings of Acharya Shri 1008 Vidya Sagar Ji Maharaj. 

How To Reach

By Road

The Little town has excellent connectivity of city buses from Rajnandgaon district. 

By Railways

The closest railhead is Dongagarh Railway station lies on Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai railway line that means it is well accessible from Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur and within the state is Durg, Raipur and Rajnandgaon. 

By Airways

The approaching airport is Raipur Airport located at the distance of 110kms. The in service airport has great connectivity from the adjacent states. After you come out of the airport, there are plenty of city buses to Dongagarh.
