Madhubani Travel Guide

Madhubani is a district of Indian state of Bihar. The total land area of the district is 3501 km2 . It is also known as “madhu”+”vani” that means sweet voice. The divisions of district are:-

Balat

Jainagar

Dullipatti

Ghoghardhia

Jhanjharpu

Madhubani comes under the category of seismic zone V introduced by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The name Madhubani is recognized all over the world because of “Madhubani Paintings”. It is said that King Janak had asked to develop these paintings because he wants to capture the moments from her daughter’s wedding (Ramayan). Special mention about the paintings is that they are made out of complex geometrical figures and they are well known for the depiction of rituals content on the sheet through bright colours by using fingers, twigs, matchsticks etc. In ancient times, the colours were made using plant leaves, flowers, fruits and other parts of plants. Madhubani Railway Station is awarded as the 2nd most beautiful station in the state of Bihar as the station is decorated by these paintings made by regional artists. The climate of Madhubani is mild, warm and temperate. The ideal time to explore the place is winters (December – March). The most common dialect is Maithili.

How to visit?

Road –

The road transport of Madhubani with different parts of the country is not very much developed. But the intra state busses are run by the government in order to facilitate the passengers.

Railways-

The Madhubani airport is well connected to the major cities of India Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi etc. The intra state trains runs to Patna, Gaya, Vaisahli etc. The price per person for the intra state trains is Rs. 200 to Rs. 550.

Airways –

The district doesn’t own its airport. The nearest airport is Lok Nayak JayPrakash Narayan International Airport which is 172kms away from the main city land. Regular buses and taxis are available for the to and fro to the city.
